Job Purpose or Objective(s): Provide research and legal advice to the Government Legal departments of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. You will report to the Director.
Primary Tasks:
You will research the intent of laws and judicial decisions and applies the law to the circumstances.
Work on unusual or complex problems and provide solutions.
You will negotiate contractual agreements and provide legal advice to avoid legal liability.
Provide legal representation to the Nation in all requested and required legal and liability areas.
You will manage the case management of in-house matters.
Prepare, negotiate, review and advise on work pertaining to contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments on behalf of the Nation.
Provide guidance to lower level Attorneys.
Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
Licensed to practice law by a State within the United States
Ability to handle a variety of legal fields and procedures
Experience in the areas of health law, environmental law, and reviewing of Grants a plus
Experience in code and policy drafting or legislative experience
Understanding of tribal law, and sovereignty.
Minimum six [6] years’ experience as an attorney
